Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience
Chukka Caribbean Adventures has partnered with one of the best Rums in the World, Appleton Estate to create this truly unique Jamaican Experience. Rum is made from fermented sugarcane juice, cane syrup, or molasses that is distilled to become alcohol at about 80 proof or higher. Rum is relatively new, having been first made by colonists in the Caribbean in the 1600s. Legend has it that it was discovered when a Barbadian slave dipped his spoon into a tray of leftover molasses that had spent weeks in the hot sun.
Appleton Estate Jamaica Rums is one of the Caribbean's oldest rums and are crafted with excellence from cane to cocktail. It is an only-here, authentic, multi-sensory, educational and fun journey where guests have a chance to see, touch and taste their way through Appleton Estate’s unique rum making process. Jamaican Rum is generally double-distilled and made from molasses, which is fermented for about three weeks, in the case of Appleton Rum, it is fermented in toasted Oak barrels from anywhere. From eight (8) to twenty- one (21) years. The final product is expertly crafted by Master Blender, Joy Spence, the first female master blender in the world. The Chukka experience guides will talk you through the entire process so you can truly appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into making one of the best rums in the world.
The tasting flight is rounded out with delicious chocolate from Pure Chocolate, which pairs excellently. This multi-sensory experience has to be tasted to be truly enjoyed.
